Now, as reported by the Michigan Advance, Trumper politicians like MI House Speaker Matt Hall are shockingly praising these delays, treating an international breach of trust as leverage for a "better deal." This blatant lack of integrity from our leadership is downright embarrassing. Let's be clear about what is actually happening: this sudden interference is being driven by the billionaire Maroun family. As the owners of the private Ambassador Bridge, they are actively lobbying to stall the Gordie Howe span to protect their own monopoly and line their pockets. A deal is a deal. Reneging on our promise to Canada just to favor a wealthy Trump donor hurts Michigan’s economy, damages our reputation, and betrays our closest neighbor.
