Listen to Bernie Sanders and stop supplying offensive weapons to Israel that enable the indiscriminate bombing of civilians and egregious violations of human rights in Gaza. The proposed $20 billion arms transfer to Israel should be blocked. The evidence is clear that U.S.-provided munitions like JDAMS and tank rounds have been used in a manner inconsistent with international law, leading to unacceptable civilian casualties and devastation of civilian infrastructure. Israel has also severely restricted humanitarian aid access, exacerbating the humanitarian catastrophe. Continuing these arms transfers would make the U.S. complicit in perpetuating this genocide. This proposed weapons transfer undermines efforts to secure a ceasefire and the release of hostages, while rewarding policies that undermine U.S. interests in the region. Upholding laws like the Foreign Assistance Act and Arms Export Control Act which prohibit arms transfers used for human rights violations is crucial. Blocking the $20 billion transfer can pressure Israel to alter its military approach, avert further escalation, and restore U.S. credibility internationally. The majority of Americans across the political spectrum oppose sending more weapons given the dire situation. Following the principled example of U.S. allies who have already restricted arms transfers is warranted.
