It is unacceptable that Postmaster General DeJoy continues to implement policies that undermine the United States Postal Service's ability to provide reliable and timely mail delivery. His latest initiative to abolish afternoon mail pickups, particularly in rural areas, and extend service standards by excluding Sundays will only exacerbate the already significant delays in mail delivery experienced across the country. This is a disservice to the millions of Americans who rely on the Postal Service for essential items such as medications, bills, and personal correspondence. The proposed $3.6-$3.7 billion in cost savings comes at the expense of the Postal Service's core mission of providing prompt and efficient mail service to all communities. DeJoy's focus on profits over people is misguided and threatens to drive customers away from using the mail altogether. Rather than continually degrading service, the Postal Service should be investing in its workforce and infrastructure to meet the growing demand for reliable package delivery. Congress and the President must take action to halt DeJoy's destructive policies and restore the Postal Service to its rightful role as a vital public service. Removing DeJoy from his position and implementing rigorous oversight measures are necessary steps to ensure the Postal Service remains a trusted and accessible institution for all Americans, regardless of their location or economic status. The Postal Service is a constitutionally mandated service, and its future should not be compromised by misguided attempts to prioritize profits over its public service mission.
