Stop the Rafah invasion and enforce the leahy laws

To: Rep. Courtney, Sen. Blumenthal, Pres. Biden, Sen. Murphy

From: A constituent in East Hampton, CT

May 7

The Israel invasion of Rafah starting right after Hamas agrees to Israel's ceasefire proposal will cause catastrophic loss of life and suffering for civilians who went to Rafah because they were listening to direct evacuation orders from the IDF. Israel has already bombed Rafah causing countless civilian deaths and a ground invasion would exacerable and escalate this crises and possibly turn it into a full regional crises. Airstrikes in Rafah has already caused the lives of children to be lost and countless more lives stuck under the rubble with their fate unknown. I urge you to demand that Israel follows the ceasefire deal it proposed to Hamas which was agreeed upon by Hamas and to stop funding and arming Israel. I urge you to follow the leahy laws which states that the USA cannot arm a country that is currently committing human right abuses. In a data for progress poll most American voters want the US to call for a permanent ceasefire in gaza and to prioritize diplomacy. By refusing to call for a ceasefire you are actively going against the interest of your voters.  Sources: (www.dataforprogress.org/blog/2023/12/5/voters-want-the-us-to-call-for-a-permanent-ceasefire-in-gaza-and-to-prioritize-diplomacy) (www.aljazeera.com/news/2024/3/3/israeli-air-raid-on-rafah-kills-14-palestinians-many-of-them-children)
