Repeal the National Tax Credit Voucher Program

To: Sen. Ossoff, Sen. Warnock, Rep. Clyde

From: A verified voter in Tiger, GA

September 27

Repeal the national tax-credit voucher program before it takes effect on January 1, 2027. This program will drain public money from the community schools that serve every child — including the most vulnerable kids who have nowhere else to go. Private and charter schools can turn those students away. Public schools cannot. Because of enrollment based funding, public schools lose money every time a student leaves. Some public schools could be facing closure because of it. The children left behind are kids sleeping in bathtubs, kids being raised by grandparents amid the opioid crisis, kids for whom school is the only stable place in their week. Voucher schools don't have to accept them, and many won't. Public schools take everyone, but only if they're funded to do so. Public schools are also where kids from different backgrounds are forced to learn alongside each other — one of the last institutions in this country that still does that. Defunding them doesn't just hurt individual families. It weakens the civic fabric this republic depends on. Repeal this program now.
