The current state of American politics and government stands as proof that one can manipulate sufficiently simple victims in the millions and manufacture their consent on demand. And that doing so is not really a domestic threat to society or government if you're rich and/or shrewd enough to manage it. Heck, rub their noses in it by persuading them to elect THE WORST POSSIBLE CANDIDATES. I'd love to see that change. Simple people actually do MUCH less harm coming up with societally destructive ideas on their own when they are even willing and able to do so beyond keeping to their own sand pile. Don't make them instruments of destruction. Make that as unethical in the eyes of government and politics as, well, as it genuinely is. Punish the shrewd who manipulate the simple. Make it not worth their while to keep doing so. If government won't do that, we may need to be more shrewd and figure out non-violent ways to do it ourselves until we can persuade those to whom we pay taxes (and who allow the shrewd to escape paying taxes) that it's their actual job to prevent the prosperous from manipulating the simple and gaming the system like this.
