Vote No on DHS Funding Until ICE is Fundamentally Reformed

To: Rep. McDonald Rivet, Sen. Slotkin, Sen. Peters

From: A constituent in Fenton, MI

February 12

I am writing to demand that you oppose any Department of Homeland Security appropriations bill that does not include fundamental, mandatory reforms to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Continuing to fund ICE in its current form is unacceptable. The agency operates with a dangerous lack of transparency and has repeatedly demonstrated a pattern of civil and human rights abuses that go unchecked. Funding without accountability is a dereliction of your duty to uphold the Constitution and protect the rights of all people in this country. Any DHS funding bill must include: Strong, enforceable oversight mechanisms with real consequences for misconduct. A complete and public audit of ICE's budget, facilities, and operations. An end to policies that lead to family separation and the inhumane treatment of detainees. I expect you to use your position to withhold funding for ICE until these essential accountability measures are enacted. I will be watching your vote on this matter closely and will remember it come election time.
