Support SB775 to End Cross-Border Horse Slaughter

To: Rep. Lee, Sen. McCormick, Pres. Trump, Sen. Fetterman

From: A verified voter in Elizabeth, PA

April 25

I need you to support and vote yes on SB775, the SAFE Act of 2025. This bill closes the loophole that allows horses to be shipped to Canada and Mexico for slaughter, a practice that continues even though domestic horse slaughter has been effectively stopped. Right now, horses are still being transported across our borders to slaughter facilities abroad for human consumption. SB775 extends the same federal protections we already provide to dogs and cats to include all equines. The bill amends the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018 to prohibit the slaughter of horses, donkeys, and mules for human consumption, whether here or for export. This is a straightforward fix that uses existing enforcement mechanisms already in place for other animals. Horses deserve the same protection we give to companion animals. The bill has no sunset provision and requires no new funding, making it a permanent solution that works within current agency budgets. Vote yes on SB775 and help end the export of American horses for slaughter.
