An Open Letter

To: Sen. Duckworth, Rep. Ramirez, Pres. Trump, Sen. Durbin

From: A verified voter in Chicago, IL

June 9

I’m writing as a constituent and a strong supporter of public media to express my deep concern about any efforts to reduce or eliminate federal funding for NPR, PBS, or their affiliate stations. Public media plays a vital role in our democracy by providing trusted news, educational programming, and cultural content that is accessible to everyone, regardless of income or location. Stations like PBS and NPR are especially important in rural and underserved areas, where they may be the only source of free, high-quality educational and informational content. Defunding public media would be a disservice not only to the millions of Americans who rely on it daily, but also to the values of transparency, education, and civic engagement that these institutions uphold. I urge you to oppose any proposals to claw back funding from public broadcasting and instead support continued investment in this essential public service. Thank you for your time and for your service to our community.
