Judge Merchan's Non-Sentencing: WHY?

To: Sen. Ossoff, Sen. Warnock, Rep. Clyde

From: A verified voter in Talking Rock, GA

July 20

All right, a question for my leaders in Congress: Why did Judge Merchan, who presided over the trial and conviction on felony counts of Donald Trump BEFORE he was President-Elect, indeed months before the November election, delay sentencing until AFTER Trump became President-Elect, thus enabling him to have his excuse for a non-substantive sentence? A substantive sentence could have put Trump in prison. It might have resulted in the GOP having to remove him from the ballot. Judge Merchan has not explained this to the press, as far as I can find. Has he explained his inaction to you? He took the same oath I did as a government employee, to defend our Constitution from threats both domestic and foreign. The Project 2025 plans, so publicly known that Kamala Harris was able to quote from them during her campaign, added to Trump's already egregious abuses of the Rule of Law. It's an unanswered, distressing question, more so because I don't see anyone among my own elected officials asking (or answering) it. Can you correct that, please? I'd like at least to know factually why our government does not work.
