An Open Letter

To: Sen. Hagerty, Rep. Green, Sen. Blackburn

From: A constituent in Nashville, TN

April 14

I am writing to you today to express my opinion that keeping any child from education is wrong. “The 1982 Supreme Court decision in Plyler v. Doe ruled that it is unconstitutional to deny children access to public education based on their immigration status. The close 5-4 decision affirmed that all children—regardless of their legal status—have a right to attend public schools.” This isn’t a “financial issue”—it is ideological fealty to the trump administration. It is cruel to children and senseless and everyone knows it. I will show up downtown at 12 tomorrow to protest and show you that this is wrong. I am asking that you, Tennessee Republican Party and Gov. Bill Lee to act decently. These are unconstitutional bills that you are passing right now YOU know what is right and have no need to run them up to the Supreme court….
