I’m a mother and an educator who is heartbroken about what is happening in Gaza. I cannot imagine how anyone in Congress can sleep at night knowing that the U.S. is not using its leverage to broker a ceasefire and get humanitarian aid into Gaza immediately. If there are behind the scenes complexities at play, I cannot imagine why or how I would not be seeing my reps updating and educating their constituents daily on this issue that is top of mind for so many liberal voters. At a bare minimum I would like to see anyone who represents me cosponsoring every piece of legislation that crosses their desk that will alleviate the suffering of starving families. But there’s so much more that our reps can do! They can call attention to their colleagues across the aisle who are dragging their feet. They can pressure moderate colleagues to become more vocal on this issue. They can declare their stance on taking money (or not) from organizations that would rather see all Gazans starve than give up a single inch of political influence. It’s time to get louder, please.
