I am writing to ask what is being done to improve efficiency in the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program, particularly at the point of discharge.
I will be ready to apply for PSLF credit buyback after my November payment. However, I am hearing from borrowers who are already in the process that they are being required to make payments beyond the 120 qualifying payments while their buyback requests are under review. In some cases, these reviews are taking six months to a year. Borrowers are then waiting further for refunds.
This creates unnecessary financial strain and appears to be an inefficient use of both borrower and administrative resources. What steps are being taken to ensure timely review, quicker discharge decisions, and to prevent borrowers from having to overpay while waiting on approval?
Please note: if you attempt to reach me by phone, I have a spam blocking system in place due to rampant scam calls this past year. If you call, kindly leave a voicemail so I can return your message.
Thank you for your attention to this issue. I look forward to your response and to learning more about how these delays can be addressed.
