I write today with grave concern regarding the mental fitness of former President Donald Trump and his escalating detachment from reality. His recent statement on Truth Social, in which he declared: “We must be honest about the lies and abuses that have occurred within these walls. Unfortunately, in recent years, a corrupt group of hacks and radicals within the ranks of the American government obliterated the trust and goodwill built up over generations.” This would be a welcome sentiment—if it weren’t coming from the most dishonest president in U.S. history. Trump’s own actions have obliterated trust in government through ceaseless lies, conspiracy theories, and direct assaults on democracy. • Fact-checkers documented over 30,000 false or misleading claims during Trump’s first term—21 lies per day. • On his first day back in office in 2025, he made 20 more false claims. • He continues to repeat debunked election fraud lies and falsely claim that the justice system is corrupt whenever it investigates him. 1. “We must be honest…” • The irony is staggering. Trump built his career on dishonesty, from the Obama birther conspiracy to baseless election fraud claims—the very lies that led to January 6. 2. “Lies and abuses that have occurred within these walls…” • If abuses occurred, Trump was the abuser. He: • Spread disinformation that fueled an insurrection. • Hoarded classified documents and obstructed justice. • Tried to weaponize the DOJ against political opponents. 3. “A corrupt group of hacks and radicals…” • Translation: Anyone who investigates Trump is a “radical.” • This is part of a clear pattern where he discredits institutions that hold him accountable—be it the FBI, the courts, or Congress itself. 4. “Obliterated the trust and goodwill built up over generations…” • Trust in government plummeted under Trump—not because of a “deep state,” but because of his own lies: • He told Americans not to trust elections. • He called the free press the “enemy of the people.” • He spread conspiracy theories about law enforcement to avoid accountability. Trump’s daily fabrications suggest a deeper issue than dishonesty—they raise concerns about his cognitive stability: • He lies even when the truth would serve him better—a hallmark of pathological dishonesty. • He repeats disproven conspiracies, long after being debunked—suggesting cognitive decline or detachment from reality. • He fixates on imaginary enemies while embracing corruption—which resembles authoritarian paranoia. Trump has repeatedly questioned President Biden’s mental capacity, stating: “If the president is mentally unfit to campaign, he is mentally unfit to have the nuclear codes.” By Trump’s own standard, shouldn’t Congress be questioning whether he is mentally fit to lead?
