As your constituent, I am writing to demand that you press the Trump administration to immediately take all action to secure the release of each and every person deported without due process to the CECOT torture prison in El Salvador. This includes:
-Andry Hernandez Romero, a Venezuelan makeup artist and asylum seeker;
-Neri Alvarado, who was deported over nothing more than an autism awareness tattoo;
-Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, the Maryland father, deported due to an ICE "error";
-and all others deported without due process.
These persons must be returned immediately and provided with access to courts and due process, as all people living in our land are entitled to. We are supposed to be a country dedicated to the Constitution, of which the right to due process is foundational. What the Trump administration has done goes against everything America should stand for.
We say we are a civilized, Christian nation, but sending people to certain torture and likely death over tattoos and "errors" is as evil, uncivilized, and brutish as anything the dictatorships of Russia or Iran do to people in their countries.
These acts of cruelty are only suitable for barbarians and savages, and if you don't want to be counted as among these goats , you must take every action to bring all of these people back, hold Trump to account, and ensure this will never happen again.
If one person living here can be sent away to torture and death (paid for with my tax dollars), then any of us may find ourselves in the same place. I've read Martin Niemöeller, and Hanna Arendt, and I know what happens if we do not stand up for what is good, right and lawful.
I want our country to be the "light shining on a hill", as Regan said, and stand on the side of Christian morality and decency.
Considering you proclaim to be a Christian, I expect these are the ideals you are fighting for on behalf of your constituents and that you understand the importance of combatting evil, in whatever form. I look forward to your response.
