LGBTQ+ students deserve to feel safe and seen in school. I need you to oppose any legislation that censors discussion of LGBTQ+ identities in classrooms and to champion stronger, enforceable anti-bullying protections for every student. "Don't Say Gay" style bills don't protect children — they isolate them. When schools are legally barred from acknowledging LGBTQ+ students' existence, those students lose access to supportive teachers, counselors, and peers at exactly the age they need it most. The recent rollback of 2024 Title IX regulations has already stripped explicit federal protections for LGBTQ+ students, and state-level censorship bills compound that harm. A student who can't name their experience can't report it, and a student who can't report it has no recourse. Bullying of LGBTQ+ youth is not a culture war talking point — it is a documented public health crisis with real consequences for academic performance, mental health, and long-term outcomes. Current law leaves too many gaps. I want you to push for legislation that mandates clear reporting mechanisms, requires schools to act on complaints, and includes LGBTQ+ students by name in protected categories. Silence from lawmakers is not neutrality. It is a choice that leaves vulnerable kids without protection.
