The security and stability of our social safety net programs like Social Security must be safeguarded against exploitation or defunding efforts driven by corporate interests like Doge's proposed changes to phone services for Social Security offices. Disrupting communication channels could gravely hinder millions of Americans' ability to access essential Social Security benefits and resources they depend on. We cannot allow the profit motives of companies to jeopardize the financial well-being of our most vulnerable citizens who rely on these services. Protecting Social Security from being undermined, including through telecommunications complications that inhibit public access, should be a top priority to uphold our shared values of caring for the vulnerable and ensuring a dignified retirement for all. I urge you to take a firm stand against any attempts, whether direct defunding or indirect service impediments, to weaken or privatize Social Security in service of corporate bottom lines.
