What happened in Maine is not just outrageous — it’s dangerous.
Acting Social Security Commissioner Leland Dudek attempted to sabotage essential services for newborns in Maine as political payback. His own emails reveal this was a personal vendetta against Governor Mills for not bowing to President Trump. Let me be blunt: this is the behavior of a petty tyrant, not a public servant.
Dudek’s actions weaponized a critical federal agency for political retaliation. That is a complete betrayal of public trust and a direct threat to every state in the union. If this goes unanswered, what stops this administration from punishing any state — including ours — for refusing to “kiss the king’s ring”?
You were elected to uphold the Constitution, not enable the descent into authoritarianism. I am calling on you to:
1. Publicly condemn Dudek’s abuse of power;
2. Demand his immediate resignation;
3. Support congressional hearings to investigate the full scope of political retaliation within the SSA and other federal agencies.
Anything less is complicity. This is not a partisan issue — it is a test of whether our democracy still has boundaries. If you stay silent, then you’re telling your constituents that it’s open season on any state or official who refuses to fall in line.
Do your job. Defend the people, not the power games.
