Please support Rep Schiff's Generative AI copyright disclosure bill. Big tech have been making millions off of the work of thousands of artists to profit from cheap imitations. While technology is nothing to sneeze at, it's built on existing work and gives no credit to the artists who made them. It's blatant copyright infringement, and it's disgusting that these artists who are, more often than not, are low-wage workers who, aside from making art, are working 2-3 jobs just to stay afloat. They have little recourse, in a way of challenging the likes of Opanai, Google, and Microsoft who have billions of dollars of resources to defend their thefts. Rep Schiff's is the first step to protect consumers and artists from big tech by having these AI companies file with the copyright office what items they use for their training. Preferably, I would like to see a version down the line where companies like OpenAi have to get permission from the artists or have to compensate artists when their work is being used. So I would like to see bills like this passed or at least passed with these amendments. AI has great potential, but it should be welded ethically and not be built around theft and used to create fraud. AI should be a tool to help artists not to be a weapon to exploit them.
