The American peace proposal for Ukraine severely undermines its sovereignty and national security interests. Forcing Ukraine to cede territory seized by Russia during its unprovoked invasion legitimizes the Kremlin's illegal aggression and territorial conquest. Barring Ukraine from ever joining NATO strips it of the right to determine its own security alliances and leaves it vulnerable to future Russian hostility. Ukraine cannot be expected to relinquish Crimea or forfeit its territorial integrity for empty assurances. This lopsided proposal overwhelmingly favors Russian demands at Ukraine's expense. As a champion of democracy and self-determination, the United States should stand firm in supporting Ukraine's right to maintain its borders, choose its allies freely, and resist Russia's attempts to subjugate it through military force. The path to a just resolution requires preserving Ukraine's independence and safeguarding its ability to defend itself against external threats. I urge revisiting this proposal to uphold principles of national sovereignty and international law.
