As a resident of California, I encourage you to do all they can to investigate Donald Trump and his sycophants and allies by all means possible. Though it appears that Democrats will reclaim Congress this mid-term, the greedy, narcissistic fool of a Florida Man still sits on the White House, along with his crony sycophants, and they will remain so for the next two years stealing and smashing anything they could grab. They will also look for ways to escape prosecution, on the assumption that there will be less impetus for investigation someone who cannot be tried and convicted. Disabuse them of this illusion. Investigate them for suspicious and illicit conduct. Haul them before hearings and interview witnesses. Build cases against them. Prepare prosecutions against them; presidential pardons only protect against federal charges - not state charges. Where state laws and federal laws do *not* overlap, consider passing equivalent laws. In any case, bring forward *state* charges so the lackeys cannot wave their pardons and run away. No doubt they will cry foul and appeal. They may even claim their pardon grants absolution from *state* charges. Do not be fooled. The United States is a federation, where the tenth amendment reserves substantial powers to the states, and the cronies shall face state charges all the same. A final note to Gov. Newsom and AG Bonta (Sen. Cortese and Asm. Ahrens, please pass this letter to the AG): Such investigations may push you into conflict with the Ellisons, notable allies of Mar-a-Lago who most likely believe they can rely on you to avoid investigations on account of the reprieve granted to them over the Paramount-Warner Bros. merger. Disabuse them of this notion. Investigate them like you would do to any other lackey. The breakup of the merger can be a potent threat; simply throw anti-trust laws at it. In any case, the Ellisons deserves no respite from investigations against the orange baboon.
