I am writing to urge you to oppose any attempt by President Trump to conduct mass deportations. Not only do the hard working law abiding immigrants of whatever status deserve the opportunity to reach their own American dream (and the opportunity to earn their way into tax paying status for the good of the country), America’s economy rests on their backs. Without immigrants, America’s agricultural products may rot in the fields and our chickens remain unslaughtered and our grocery aisles empty. Without immigrants, service businesses, construction businesses, and home repair businesses will struggle to meet demand. Prices for goods and services across the board will spike, at a time when everyday Americans are already struggling under the weight of inflation. Mass deportation of people who are contributing members of society is wildly unpopular with the American people in polls. It’s also incredibly expensive, in a time when we are already running a deficit. Worst of all, it will lead to logistical and humanitarian nightmares that will serve as a stain on American history for generations. It’s expensive, it’s unpopular, it’s inhumane, and it may not even be possible to deport people in those large of numbers at all. This is a waste of time and resources with the worst possible results for immigrants, prices, and the economy.
Please block this at every possible turn. It’s just a profoundly bad idea.
