May 8

I write with outrage at your silence as Israel brazenly moves to permanently occupy Gaza—despite denying such intentions at every turn. In early May, Israel’s security cabinet convened to approve an expanded offensive “to seize the Gaza Strip and control aid,” a clear admission that this is no mere strike against Hamas but the groundwork for an open-ended occupation . Prime Minister Netanyahu confirmed that troops would not “launch raids and then retreat,” but would instead remain to enforce this control—an admission of intent to hold Gaza indefinitely . Europe’s leaders have warned that these plans “cross a dangerous line” and violate human-rights clauses in the EU-Israel Association Agreement, yet you have done nothing to join their condemnation . United Nations experts have decried “genocidal acts,” sexual violence, and the blockade that has barred all aid into Gaza since early March, warning of a humanitarian catastrophe for 2.3 million civilians . Major aid organizations, including World Central Kitchen, have halted operations after running out of supplies and being blocked by Israeli restrictions—resulting in the loss of up to 500,000 free meals per day . By continuing to fund Israel’s military without conditions, by refusing to demand unfettered humanitarian access, and by watching as your claims of “no intent to occupy” are exposed as lies, you are complicit in collective punishment and de facto annexation of Gaza . Even as the U.S. threatened Israel with a 30-day ultimatum to improve humanitarian conditions, no effective action followed—demonstrating that our rhetoric lacks real consequences . I demand that you immediately: 1. Publicly denounce any plan for permanent occupation or annexation of Gaza. 2. Condition all U.S. military and diplomatic aid on Israel’s adherence to international humanitarian law and unimpeded delivery of food, water, and medical supplies. 3. Lead U.S. efforts at the United Nations to pass and enforce resolutions demanding an immediate end to occupation plans and ensuring accountability for violations. Your continued inaction betrays both our nation’s professed values and the world’s expectation that the United States defend human rights and uphold the rules-based order. I will hold you personally accountable for whether you choose to protect these principles or stand idly by as they are trampled.
