NASA will permanently close its largest research library at Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, on Friday, housing tens of thousands of books and documents—many never digitized—with only 10-15% of the rarest materials to be preserved. The closure is part of an accelerated restructuring that will shutter 13 buildings and over 100 labs by March 2026, as Goddard’s workforce has declined from over 10,000 to about 6,600 amid budget cuts and Trump administration efficiency initiatives. This closure will save a measly 10 million while losing so much knowledge.
This is so wrong. We had 40 billion for Argentina, but we can’t preserve our very valuable knowledge. This is beyond short sighted. It’s intentionally destroying science. Stop talking and do something to stop this!
