I urge you to preserve and strengthen Social Security, a vital program that provides essential income for millions of retired Americans. Recent comments from lawmakers and advisers to the incoming administration about potential cuts to Social Security are deeply concerning. Social Security is not an expendable government program – it is a promise to our nation's seniors who have paid into the system throughout their working lives. Cutting or undermining this crucial safety net would be devastating for the financial security and well-being of our elderly and disabled citizens who rely on these hard-earned benefits to make ends meet. Instead of entertaining harmful cuts, we should be exploring ways to bolster Social Security's long-term solvency through reasonable measures like raising or eliminating the payroll tax cap for high-income earners. Slashing benefits or making it harder for eligible recipients to access their earned payments is unacceptable. Social Security has been a pillar of economic security for generations, and we have an obligation to preserve and fortify this system for current and future retirees. I strongly urge you to reject any proposals that would undermine or diminish Social Security's vital role.
