The United States must reckon with its role in enabling Israel's genocidal campaign against Palestinians in Gaza. As the federal court recently determined, Israel's ongoing military siege constitutes a plausible case of genocide aimed at eradicating the Palestinian people. Despite this grave finding, the U.S. continues to provide Israel with "unflagging support" through military aid and diplomatic cover. This unconditional backing directly facilitates the mass killings, displacement, and devastation inflicted on Palestinian civilians in Gaza. The court heard horrifying firsthand accounts from Palestinian witnesses who testified about Israel's slaughter of their loved ones and the destruction of their homeland. Genocide scholars confirmed these acts bear the hallmarks of a systematic effort to destroy a national group in whole or in part. Yet the U.S. persists in funding and defending these atrocities, contravening its obligations under the Genocide Convention. To uphold its commitment to human rights and the rule of law, the U.S. must immediately halt all military assistance to Israel. Further, it should leverage its considerable influence to demand Israel complies with the International Court of Justice's emergency measures to end the genocidal assault in Gaza. Failing to do so makes the U.S. complicit in ongoing crimes against humanity of the highest order. The genocide unfolding in Gaza demands urgent action, not continued support for its perpetrators. The American people cannot turn a blind eye while millions of Palestinian lives hang in the balance.
