I’m writing to condemn your vote for the One Big Beautiful Bill — a bill that sacrifices working families, rural communities, seniors, and the environment to enrich corporations, surveillance contractors, and political donors. Let’s get specific. You Voted to Cut Health Care from Working People and Seniors • Over $600 billion in Medicaid cuts will result in millions losing coverage — not because they’re lazy, but because they miss paperwork, have unstable jobs, or care for family. • You imposed harsh new work requirements and reporting mandates that will cause vulnerable people to fall through bureaucratic cracks. • Medicaid keeps rural hospitals open, funds nursing homes, and supports disabled adults and low-income seniors — all of which are now at risk. • You also slashed ACA subsidies, pushing up premiums and deductibles for families who don’t qualify for Medicaid but can’t afford private coverage. You Gave the Wealthy Permanent Tax Cuts and Gave Workers a Temporary Cut • Billionaires and corporations got permanent giveaways: lower capital gains taxes, pass-through loopholes, estate tax rollbacks, and corporate rate locks. • Working people got a temporary break on tips and overtime — which disappears in 2028. • That’s not “tax relief.” That’s a scam: you handed cash to the rich and gave the rest of us a ticking clock. You Hurt Rural Communities • Cuts to Medicaid and SNAP will cripple small-town hospitals, nursing homes, and health departments — especially those already on the brink. • Rural ERs rely on Medicaid. When that funding disappears, so do the doctors and nurses. What happens when the next stroke, car accident, or overdose hits and the nearest hospital is 45 minutes away? You Gutted Environmental Progress • The bill kills nearly every major clean energy tax credit — for solar panels, EVs, home efficiency, and more. • It increases reliance on fossil fuels, eliminates climate resilience funding, and does nothing to lower energy bills or reduce pollution. • In a time of record heat and drought, you chose profit over survival. You Funded Surveillance and Border Theater While Gutting Services • While cutting food assistance and healthcare, the bill boosts spending on AI-powered surveillance, ICE detention centers, and mass deportations. • That’s billions for facial recognition and drone fleets — but not a dime for maternal care, mental health, or affordable housing. Stop Lying About Immigrants You and your allies keep pushing the lie that undocumented immigrants are draining our system. That’s not only false — it’s racist scapegoating. Let’s be clear: • Undocumented immigrants do NOT qualify for Medicaid, SNAP, or ACA subsidies. They haven’t for decades. • But they do pay taxes: sales taxes, property taxes (even when renting), and over $20 billion annually into Social Security, which they will never collect. So no, this bill doesn’t “cut off freeloaders.” It hurts citizens.
