This disturbing situation involving the deportation of U.S. citizen children alongside their undocumented mothers is a blatant violation of due process and constitutional rights. Deporting American citizens, especially vulnerable minors like a 4-year-old with Stage 4 cancer, without any meaningful legal process or ability to contact family is unconscionable. These children had their lives uprooted and were effectively rendered stateless through no fault of their own. It is alarming that ICE carried out these deportations swiftly, preventing the families from accessing legal counsel or having their citizenship properly verified. Failing to allow the U.S. citizen parents to weigh in on such a consequential decision for their children is a gross injustice. No American, especially children, should ever be stripped of their citizenship without exhausting all legal avenues. This egregious violation of civil liberties under the guise of immigration enforcement must cease immediately. Stringent procedures need to be implemented to properly identify citizenship status and provide legal due process, especially for minors. These U.S. citizen children must be safely returned and reunited with their families while their cases are properly adjudicated. Preventative measures are crucial to avoid further wrongful deportations that irreparably traumatize American families.
