I am writing as a deeply concerned constituent to condemn in the strongest possible terms the unauthorized military action against Venezuela, as reported on January 3, 2026. This act represents a grave constitutional and legal breach that demands immediate and forceful congressional action.
The President’s decision to order an attack without seeking a declaration of war or explicit authorization from Congress is a direct violation of Article I, Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution, which reserves the power to declare war for the legislative branch. This unilateral move constitutes an illegal and offensive act of war, not a defensive action, and it flagrantly undermines the system of checks and balances that is the foundation of our democracy.
Furthermore, this unprovoked invasion is a clear violation of international law, specifically the United Nations Charter, which prohibits the use of force against the territorial integrity and political independence of another state. It jeopardizes global stability, damages America’s moral standing, and risks entangling our nation in another protracted and devastating conflict.
Given the severity of this unconstitutional and illegal act—an act that represents a profound abuse of power and a betrayal of the oath of office—I believe that Congress has a duty to pursue the most serious remedy available. Anything short of initiating impeachment proceedings against President Trump for this egregious overreach would be an abdication of your sworn constitutional responsibility.
I urge you to publicly condemn this illegal war, use all legislative powers to halt unauthorized military operations, and uphold the Constitution by supporting articles of impeachment. The preservation of our republic and the rule of law, both domestically and internationally, depends on it.
