Ceasefire and end military aid enabling violence in Gaza

Jabalia refugee camp, home to over 116,000 Palestinian refugees, has been left as an unrecognizable wasteland following a 20-day Israeli assault. Entire neighborhoods were wiped out, homes and infrastructure destroyed. Reports indicate nearly 1,000 houses demolished, corpses strewn in the streets, and vital facilities like hospitals, clinics, and a UN school torched and razed. Survivors describe scenes of utter devastation and a humanitarian catastrophe. This latest escalation is part of an 8-month-long Israeli offensive on Gaza that has killed over 36,000 Palestinians, with 10,000 more missing. In light of these horrific events, I urge an immediate ceasefire and cessation of hostilities to prevent further loss of innocent lives. Furthermore, I call for an end to military aid and arms sales to Israel enabling this violence against civilians, and restoration of funding for UNRWA to support essential services for Palestinian refugees. The extreme disproportionality and scale of destruction in Jabalia camp cannot be justified. Concrete steps must be taken to address the root causes of this conflict and achieve a just and lasting peace.
