Please Support U.S. Participation in the International Criminal Court

To: Rep. Courtney, Sen. Murphy, Pres. Trump, Sen. Blumenthal

From: A constituent in East Haddam, CT

April 7

I am writing as a constituent to express my support for the United States joining the International Criminal Court (ICC). Numerous legal experts, human rights advocates, and international policy analysts have pointed out that the ICC plays a central role in addressing genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity. Supporters argue that U.S. participation would strengthen the court’s effectiveness and reinforce global norms of accountability. Many analysts have also noted that by remaining outside the ICC, the United States limits its ability to influence the development of international criminal law. Participation would give our country a seat at the table in shaping standards and procedures that affect global security and human rights. In addition, joining the ICC could enhance the credibility of U.S. advocacy for justice abroad. According to various reports from international law organizations, countries that engage with the ICC often see improved cooperation on issues such as conflict prevention, civilian protection, and post‑conflict reconciliation. I respectfully urge you to support policies that move the United States toward full membership in the ICC and to consider the long‑term benefits of aligning our nation with this global institution. Thank you for your service and for considering my views.
