Reject Trump’s Attempt To Collar Independent Agencies and Claim Judicial Power

To: Sen. Ossoff, Rep. Allen, Sen. Warnock

From: A constituent in Augusta, GA

February 20

Trump’s executive orders on Feb 18 consolidate unprecedented power under the presidency by bringing independent agencies under direct executive control and attempting to claim the legal interpretive power that constitutionally belongs to the judicial branch. As your constituent, I don’t want this!! YOU don’t want this!! Independent agencies are independent for a reason; elections, communications, foreign intelligence, consumer protections, etc are far too important to expose to the changing winds of politics as presidents come and go. On top of this and even more dangerously, Trump trying to claim judicial powers of interpreting law in the executive branch is ludicrously unconstitutional. And this within 24 hours of Trump and the White House posting “long live the king”. I ask you to vocally oppose this executive power grab and protect the fundamental separation of powers our democracy depends on, and to do everything you can to uphold our government’s order before it is out of your hands.
