An Open Letter

The orange menace in charge is at it again... he wants to gut the "Roadless Rule" and allow logging and other reductions of pristine timber areas across the country. Some of these are old growth forests which were standing long before we became a country. One example is The Tongass in Alaska, which is the largest intact temperature rainforest left on the planet! The "official" story is fire safety, but it's a ruse. Wildfires are 4 times more likely to ignite near roads because roads bring people, who bring sparks. You cannot save old growth forests by carving them up. This is not forest management as it claims to be -- it's a clearance sale for timber. These groves of old growth forests are not inventory to be sold off. Once a single bulldozer or timber truck enters the area, the desecration of the area is permanent. The forest will fall, and nothing we do can bring it back. Even trees planted this year will have to grow for a century to remove as much carbon as currently existing old growth forests remove now. Climate change can’t wait that long, and Americans want the wild places in our country left wild. Please speak out against gutting the Roadless Rule and leave our natural environments alone. Don’t let one man ruin it.
