An Open Letter

To: Sen. Peters, Rep. McDonald Rivet, Sen. Slotkin

From: A constituent in Midland, MI

June 22

I’m writing to ask you to restore two days that entry into our national parks are free. Recently, the NPS free dates dropped Martin Luther King Jr. day, as well as Juneteenth. I find it remarkable that both days celebrate progress in rights for black Americans. To me, and many other Americans, this is blatantly racist. If the president wants to add his birthday to the dates allowing people to visit national parks for free, I have no issue with that… especially since it’s also Flag Day. I DO have an issue with removing two important dates for black Americans. This only emphasizes the racism present in the current regime. Please work with your colleagues to restore those two days and speak out against the racist actions of our leadership. Thank you.
