An Open Letter

To: Rep. McClain, Sen. Slotkin, Sen. Peters

From: A constituent in Chesterfield, MI

September 9

I am writing as your constituent to demand that Congress open a formal impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump, and at minimum hold hearings on his fitness to continue discharging the duties of his office. The immediate trigger Over Labor Day weekend (September 5–7, 2026), President Trump posted more than 37 messages on Truth Social in roughly 48 hours, many featuring AI-generated images depicting himself commanding armies of robotic soldiers, riding horses alongside George Washington, and claiming "THE MOON IS OURS." He posted a map purporting to rename the state of New Mexico, made unsubstantiated claims of having personally made "hundreds of billions of dollars" for the country through stock trades, and shared unverified infographics about Iran's economy. The spree was erratic enough that it drew public calls to invoke the 25th Amendment — not only from Democratic officials, but from Republican commentators who said this "is truly unhinged behavior" and "none of this is normal or okay." I am not a physician and I am not asserting a medical diagnosis. But I don't need to be a doctor to recognize that a sitting president spending ten-plus hours posting AI fantasy content — casting himself as a conquering military hero and territorial conqueror — raises legitimate, urgent questions about his grip on reality and capacity to responsibly execute the duties of the presidency. Congress has both the authority and the obligation to investigate that question rather than wait for a crisis to force the issue. What I am asking you to do 1. Publicly call for the House Judiciary Committee (or relevant committee) to open an impeachment inquiry. 2. Request that the Cabinet and Vice President seriously evaluate whether Section 4 of the 25th Amendment applies. 3. Respond to this letter with your position and any concrete steps you intend to take. I am watching how you respond to this moment, and I will be discussing it with other constituents in our community. Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter.
