Don’t allow the government to retaliate against sanctuary cities.

To: Sen. Gillibrand, Rep. Velázquez, Sen. Schumer

From: A constituent in Brooklyn, NY

February 8, 2025

The "No Bailout for Sanctuary Cities Act" would make jurisdictions ineligible for certain federal funds if they prohibit sharing information about immigration status or complying with detainer requests from the Department of Homeland Security, with limited exceptions. This undermines local control and could jeopardize funding for essential services that benefit all residents regardless of immigration status. I urge you to oppose this harmful legislation that punishes communities for prioritizing public safety over federal immigration enforcement. Local policies build trust between law enforcement and residents, making everyone safer. Stripping funds would be counterproductive to upholding law and order. Protecting all residents' rights and access to services is crucial for cohesive communities. Please stand against this misguided bill that disregards local autonomy and values.
