Defend the First Amendment: Condemn Trump's White House Press Ban

To: Sen. Collins, Pres. Trump, Sen. King, Rep. Pingree

From: A constituent in Damariscotta, ME

September 21

You need to publicly condemn the Trump administration's decision to ban CNN, MSNBC, and Politico from the White House and demand those credentials be restored immediately. Revoking press access because the administration dislikes a news outlet's coverage is a direct attack on the First Amendment. This isn't a gray area. The president offered no specific story or segment to justify the ban — just a blanket accusation of "fake news." That's not a legal standard. It's retaliation. Fox News, ABC, CBS, NBC, and CNN issued a rare joint statement warning that no administration should restrict press access over objectionable reporting, and the entire White House TV pool has now suspended coverage in solidarity. CNN, MSNBC, and Politico are already preparing a First Amendment lawsuit. The courts will likely agree with them. Your voice matters before this gets that far. Speak up now.
