The damaging impact of tariffs implemented during the Trump administration cannot be overstated. As reported by Axios, JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon warned that defaults are "absolutely inevitable" due to the lingering effects of Trump's trade war policies and retaliatory tariffs from other nations. This protectionist approach has disrupted global supply chains, increased costs for businesses and consumers alike, and sowed uncertainty that hinders economic growth. We must learn from this destructive experience and pursue fair, mutually beneficial trade agreements that strengthen partnerships rather than erecting counterproductive barriers. A recalibration of US trade policy is urgently needed to safeguard American jobs and competitiveness on the world stage.
