I am writing as a concerned constituent to express my strong opposition to the ongoing mid-decade redistricting efforts being undertaken during the current special legislative session. The decision to redraw Texas’s congressional maps outside of the regular decennial process undermines public trust and gives the appearance of partisan manipulation of our electoral system.
Redistricting is a powerful tool that shapes representation for millions of Texans. When that power is wielded for political gain—especially outside of the normal census-driven cycle—it risks eroding the foundational principles of fair and equal representation. The integrity of our democracy depends on a redistricting process that is transparent, impartial, and accountable to the people—not to party interests.
For this reason, I strongly support the creation of an independent redistricting commission in Texas. Such commissions have been successfully implemented in other states and have proven effective at producing more balanced, competitive maps that reflect communities rather than political advantage. This is the path Texas should take to ensure that voters choose their representatives—not the other way around.
I urge you to publicly oppose the current redistricting efforts and to advocate for the establishment of an independent redistricting commission through legislation or constitutional amendment. Texans deserve a system that protects the fairness of our elections and restores confidence in our political institutions.
Thank you for your time and service. I look forward to your leadership on this vital issue.
