Family farms are going bankrupt at alarming rates. Unfocused trade tariffs have caused major trading partners such as China, Mexico, and Canada to permanently shift purchases of agricultural commodities to other countries. The damage to American agriculture is long-lasting and may not be easily reversed.
I am also concerned about the prospect of another war of choice with Iran. Recent tensions have already contributed to higher fuel and fertilizer costs, placing additional financial pressure on farmers and rural communities.
While one-time assistance payments may provide temporary relief, they do not come close to offsetting the ongoing losses caused by reduced export markets, higher input costs, and declining farm profitability. I urge you to support policies that restore stable trade relationships, avoid unnecessary military conflict, and protect the long-term viability of family farms.
