I am writing as your constituent to demand you vote NO on any clean reauthorization of FISA Section 702.
Warrantless surveillance of Americans is anti-democratic. Full stop. The Fourth Amendment exists precisely to prevent the government from searching our private communications without judicial oversight. A surveillance program that bypasses that protection — regardless of its stated foreign intelligence purpose — is incompatible with the principles of a free society.
We were promised safeguards. Those safeguards are gone. The FBI’s internal watchdog was disbanded in 2025. The Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board has been without a quorum since January of that same year. The very mechanisms designed to prevent abuse have been deliberately dismantled.
Section 702 has already been used to conduct warrantless searches on American protesters, journalists, congressional staff, campaign donors, and sitting members of Congress. This is not hypothetical overreach — it is documented fact.
Now add artificial intelligence to the equation. Experts, including the CEO of Anthropic, have stated plainly that AI-driven mass surveillance is incompatible with democratic values. AI eliminates the friction, the paper trails, and the resource constraints that made old oversight systems marginally effective. The architecture built to catch abuses was not designed for this world.
No warrant requirement, no reauthorization. Anything less is a blank check for unconstitutional surveillance of the American people.
I expect your NO vote.
