An Open Letter

To: Rep. Rose, Sen. Blackburn, Sen. Hagerty, Pres. Trump

From: A constituent in Nashville, TN

February 4

It is deeply concerning that an unelected individual like Elon Musk and his team at DOGE are gaining unprecedented levels of access and control over federal agencies and systems. This appears to be an extralegal power grab that undermines democratic processes and the separation of powers. Musk's actions in attempting to override long-standing agencies like USAID without Congressional approval are alarming. Even more troubling are reports that DOGE may be trying to access Americans' private data like tax returns and benefit payments through the Treasury Department's payment systems. This would be a massive violation of privacy rights. Congress must assert its constitutional authority as a co-equal branch of government. Stringent oversight hearings should be held to investigate the scope of DOGE's activities and whether any laws have been broken regarding mishandling of classified information, illegal unveting of Musk's associates, and improper access to confidential citizen data. If DOGE is found to be operating extralegally, its access should be immediately revoked and those involved held accountable. Unchecked executive overreach that sidesteps Congress's power of the purse is a dangerous precedent. Preserving democratic norms and civilian privacy must be upheld.
