I protest in the strongest possible way the NASA decision, driven by this completely corrupt administration, to eliminate its chief scientist position. Dr. Calvin was appointed as NASA’s chief scientist in January 2022. The role of the chief scientist has been to advise the NASA administrator and other top officials on strategic planning. Dr. Calvin is the agency’s 11th chief scientist since 1982. Dr. Calvin was also the US representative to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which she was prohibited from attending. NASA has just reduced the very source of scientific advice that Congress - YOU - most desperately need in a warming planet with out of control natural disasters on the horizon. This all devolves from the insane orders of Trump’s administration to start to make radical, fatal cuts to the US’s most productive and world leading scientific enterprise for near-Earth and space science. I am a researcher in these fields, and I have expert knowledge that this decision is INSANE. Hold hearings! Call officials to account! REVERSE THESE CHANGES! You may not have a planet that is habitable for too much longer if these decisions are not challenged right now, and vigorously.
