I strongly urge reconsideration of the recent organizational restructuring and workforce reduction plans at the Social Security Administration. These actions jeopardize the agency's ability to carry out its critical mission of providing vital benefits and services to millions of Americans who rely on Social Security. The proposed massive staff cuts, office closures, and involuntary reassignments will severely undermine SSA's operations and customer service capabilities. This will lead to longer wait times, delayed claims processing, and reduced access to in-person assistance, disproportionately impacting vulnerable populations like the elderly and disabled. Furthermore, offering early retirement incentives and voluntary separation packages risks exacerbating an already strained workforce and accelerating the loss of institutional knowledge and expertise. The agency should instead focus on investing in its workforce and modernizing its service delivery model to meet 21st century needs. I implore you to reverse course on these misguided efforts that threaten to dismantle one of our nation's most important social safety net programs. Social Security must be protected and strengthened, not undermined through reckless restructuring that puts millions of beneficiaries at risk. The wellbeing of current and future retirees, survivors, and the disabled depends on a fully functioning and staffed Social Security Administration.
