The genocide in Gaza perpetrated by Israel must end immediately. The deliberate killing of innocent Palestinian civilians, including 710 infants under the age of one as documented in the 649-page list presented to Congress by Rashida Tlaib, is an unconscionable crime against humanity. This loss of young lives, their futures stolen, is a moral stain that demands action. Continuing to provide weapons and military aid to Israel enables these atrocities in direct violation of international law. An arms embargo is a necessary step to pressure Israel to end its brutal occupation and human rights abuses against the Palestinian people. Furthermore, reinvigorating humanitarian aid to UNRWA by co-sponsoring HR 9649 is crucial to alleviating the suffering and displacement inflicted upon Palestinian refugees. The United States' complicity in this genocide through financial, military and political support for Israel's apartheid policies is antithetical to the democratic values we claim to uphold. Concrete actions, not empty condemnations, are required to demonstrate our commitment to human rights and dignity for all people. Imposing an arms embargo on Israel and reinstating aid to UNRWA are overdue measures of accountability and justice.
