On February 28, 2025, the president of the United States ambushed a loyal ally in the Oval Office, presumably so that he can soon make a deal with the dictator of Russia to sell out a European nation fighting for its very existence.
It was a shocking and extraordinary exchange. American Support for Ukraine is anchored in our own national security interests. America is stronger when Russia is weaker, and we are weakened when Russia is stronger. We cannot allow Russian aggression to succeed here - and that is why we supported the bravery and courage of the Ukrainian people.
And Trump's latest "peace plan" is a joke. It was literally written by Russia. It rewards aggression instead of deterrence, it undermines Ukraine's sovereignty and security, it ignores human rights abuses and Russian war crimes, and worst of all - it lacks Ukrainian consent.
Ukraine is standing on the side of democracy, freedom and truth. Russia is standing on the side of tyranny, oppression and propaganda. And America should always be aligned with the interests of those principles — those principles of democracy and truth and freedom.
Members of Congress need to urge the Trump Administration that this breach with President Zelenskyy be repaired and that we stand by the Ukrainian people for the good of the American people, for the good of our national security, for the good of the free world and our continued leadership in that regard.
We should not be bending the knee to Vladimir Putin and Russia. Putin is a sworn enemy of the United States of America. It’s not in our national security interest to be supportive of him. It’s a national security interest to support the Ukrainian people and our allies in Western Europe and throughout the free world.
We need to continue to support Ukraine with military funding and increased sanctions on Russia for their brutal war of unprovoked aggression against a sovereign neighbor
