The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) attempting to gain access to sensitive Treasury data poses a severe risk to the privacy and security of millions of Americans. Recent lawsuits filed by state attorneys general and advocacy groups have raised valid concerns about potential misuse or exposure of confidential personal and financial information. Granting DOGE this level of access could enable the disclosure of Social Security numbers, tax records, benefit payments, and other protected data for federal employees, taxpayers, social security recipients, veterans, and more. This represents an unacceptable breach of public trust. Furthermore, DOGE's systems may be vulnerable to hacking or data breaches, compounding the threats to Americans' privacy and financial security. The Treasury's payment systems handle a staggering amount of funding critical to state operations and services for residents. Any disruption or manipulation of these systems by DOGE could be catastrophic for vulnerable populations relying on benefits, disaster relief, law enforcement funding, education, and more. In the interest of protecting millions of Americans and maintaining the integrity of Treasury operations, it is imperative that DOGE be permanently blocked from accessing any of the Treasury's secure payment and data systems. Robust safeguards must be put in place to prevent any overreach or abuse of power that compromises the public's privacy and trust. The risks posed by DOGE's efforts are simply too severe to ignore.
