Trump Admin Defies Court Order, Cuts NIH Grants: Act Now!

To: Sen. Cruz, Sen. Cornyn, Rep. Casar, Pres. Trump

From: A verified voter in Austin, TX

May 8

The Trump administration’s decision to cut over 600 NIH research grants—many focused on transgender health—is not just unlawful, it’s an attack on science, public health, and judicial authority. A federal court ordered the administration not to terminate these grants, yet it did so anyway, targeting research that supports the well-being of transgender Americans (ProPublica, May 2025). This is a blatant act of defiance and discrimination. These grants fund life-saving studies on mental health, HIV prevention, and suicide intervention—areas where LGBTQ+ communities are disproportionately at risk. The administration’s excuse, citing so-called “gender ideology,” has no basis in science. What it does reflect is a political agenda that prioritizes culture wars over human lives and facts. This cannot stand. Congress must immediately investigate these illegal cuts, restore the funding, and hold those responsible accountable. Americans deserve leadership that respects science, the law, and the dignity of all people—not one that strips care away to score political points.
