Protect transgender troops' right to serve honorably

To: Sen. Schumer, Sen. Gillibrand, Rep. Espaillat

From: A verified voter in New York, NY

February 27

The proposed ban on transgender troops is an unacceptable violation of their rights and a detriment to our military's effectiveness. Transgender service members have proven their valor and dedication time and again. Arbitrarily discharging them solely due to their gender identity degrades their honorable service and wastes invaluable skills and experience that cannot be easily replaced. We must enact legislation protecting the right of all qualified Americans, regardless of gender identity, to serve in the military if they meet the standards. A clear and permanent law allowing open transgender service is imperative to avoid harmful policy flip-flops that damage morale and readiness. Transgender troops have earned our profound gratitude, not discrimination. Their desire to defend our nation deserves to be celebrated, not rejected through biased policies lacking any evidence-based justification. I urge steadfast opposition to this unjust ban and a commitment to enshrining equal opportunities for all who wish to serve.
