The Interstate Obscenity Definition Act (IODA) poses a grave threat to free speech and risks unfairly censoring and criminalizing LGBTQ+ expression. By redefining obscenity in an overly broad manner that disregards community standards, this bill could enable the prosecution of any depictions of sexual activity, including literary, artistic, or educational content addressing LGBTQ+ themes and identities. Moreover, it aligns with the alarming goals outlined in the Heritage Foundation's Project 2025 blueprint, which falsely equates transgender identities with pornography and calls for criminalizing any positive representation. This draconian legislation represents a blatant attack on the rights and dignity of the LGBTQ+ community. Stripping away established legal protections for free speech opens the door to rampant censorship and discrimination under the guise of banning "obscenity." We cannot allow this thinly veiled effort to marginalize and erase LGBTQ+ lives from public discourse. I urge you to firmly oppose the IODA and any measures that infringe upon constitutionally protected liberties. Upholding free expression is crucial for a free and equitable society that embraces diversity. Please stand against this dangerous overreach and protect the rights of all Americans to share their stories without fear of unjust prosecution.
